Genia: I wouldn’t want this life for my children. Black males have it bad enough; adding homosexual to the mix throws in a whole new set of challenges. In the end, it doesn’t matter how I feel. If my children are happy, I’m happy. I would tell them I love them and make sure they know they can come to me for support when the challenges become too much for them.
Andrea: I guess if I had a child and s/he came out I would try my best to support and accept him/her for who s/he is. I think parents want the best for their children and want them to have the best life possible. Parents don’t want to see their children struggle and might see that being a homosexual could bring unwanted challenges to his/her life.

Do You Believe in Corporal Punishment?
Filed Under Parenting | Leave a Comment
Genia: I think corporal punishment will work (for most kids) until a certain age. By age 12 or so, kids become immune to spankings – and prefer spankings over other forms of punishment (like grounding) because a spanking is over within minutes. I know lots of new-age ‘parenting professionals’ (do you hear me snickering?) believe spankings are a form of child abuse. Obviously, those bitches don’t have kids of their own.
Andrea: I think a parent has the right to discipline their child however they see fit. I don’t think it should be used in schools however. As a teacher in Wisconsin I am not allowed to use any form of corporal punishment. I’m okay with this but expect the parents to play a role in discipline where the schools are not. I don’t care how they discipline as long as it’s working!

What’s With Lesbians and Their Pets?
Filed Under Parenting, WTF? | Leave a Comment
Genia: I hated cats, until my exhusband brought home the most beautiful abandoned Calico/Siamese mixed cat I’ve ever seen. Sandy was with me for 13 years before she passed away. Today, I have 3 cats of my own and I’ll be adopting Andrea’s cat once we merge households. I have human kids too, but cats are more independent, more appreciative and much more respectful.
Andrea: I’ll never get why we obsess over our pets. My cat became my baby while I was single and childless for a long time. Wait, she still is my baby even though I’m no longer single and am involved with someone who has two teenagers. For women that have children, maybe they like the fact that pets never talk back and will always appreciate the things you do for them like feeding them.
