When You Use Sex Toys for Penetration, Do You Cover Them With a Condom?
Filed Under Health | Leave a Comment
Genia: Absolutely. 100% of the time. A lot of lesbians make dangerous assumptions that just because they are same-gender loving females, they don’t have to practice safe sex. If you’re goin’ at it and you’re using a penetration sex toy that you plan to share with your partner, you should always wrap it in a condom. Change the condom before you swap places with your partner. Protect her. Protect yourself.
Andrea: Now I do. With some past partners we never used sex toys, so it was never an issue to think about. Other past partners have used them and then washed them after each use. As I have gotten older and have realized the importance of safe sex I will only use sex toys if we use a condom.

Genia: In the past, I’ve had serious issues with my mental health. I learned that painful memories don’t disappear just because you’ve left your abusive childhood home. Until the day I left home at age 17, my mother beat me severely. I thought leaving home would make it all go away. It doesn’t. At age 29, I had a mental health breakdown and spent some time in a mental health facility. I like to believe I’m a happier and healthier person today.
Andrea: I have never been a patient in a facility. I have recently started going to a therapist for mental health purposes. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a good connection with her so I am currently without therapy. Anyone know of any good therapists?

Have You Ever Used a Dental Dam?
Filed Under Health | 2 Comments
Genia: I have used dental dams in the past. Right now I don’t, even though I’m pretty cautious in other ways (like using a condom on a dildo and changing the condom before your partner uses the same dildo). I hear people saying things like, “Using a dental dam is like eating steak with plastic over your tongue. What’s the point?”
Andrea: No, I’ve never used a dental dam. I’ve seen them but never used one for oral sex. I have had a friend who used to use Saran Wrap as an alternative to using a dental dam. I’ve also read where people use an non-lubricated condom and cut it into a square.

Genia: A couple of years ago, I was tested every three months – not because I was worried, but because you could get tested for free at our local gay bar. Now, I’m tested every 6 months. I will be tested every 6 months, regardless of how many sex partners I’ve had.
Andrea: I have been tested in the past but not yearly. I was not sexually active for a long time. Now that I am sexually active again, I have been tested. I plan on getting tested when the opportunity is available even though I have only been with my partner since the last test.

Have You Ever Used Prescribed Medication to Improve Your Mental Health?
Filed Under Health | 3 Comments
Genia: Why yes, yes I have. Let’s see . . . Wellbutrin, Paxil, Trazadone and Topamax. Not all at the same time, of course. I had a mental breakdown about eight years ago. I spent three years in intensive therapy. Today, I’m drug free, but my friends all say I have a unique personality that rears its ugly head when I’m wearing a bandanna.
Andrea: No, I have never used prescribed medication to improve my health but have recently considered it.
