Genia: The first lesbian-themed movie I ever saw was The Color Purple. I loved the relationship between Celie and Shug. I read the book after I saw the movie and realized the movie altered Celie and Shug’s relationship significantly. They were much more intimate in the book than onscreen.

Andrea: In 1992 I saw Claire of the Moon. I was at my first 10% meeting in college. The movie is directed by Nicole Conn.

Genia: But I’m a Cheerleader was funny as hell! I also loved Aimee and Jaguar.

Andrea: I always liked High Art which was directed by Lisa Cholodenko. I saw this movie as a young lesbian and liked that the movie was about an artist. Because I was an artist myself, I was connected to the main character played by Ally Sheedy. I do have to note that I was never a drug-addicted photographer like her character.
