Genia: Anytime a woman tells you what you want to hear just because she’s trying to hook up with you, it’s a pickup line. I hate that. I’m usually pretty blunt and straightforward. No pickup lines here.
Andrea: I don’t think I’ve used any pick up lines on purpose. I know that I’ve heard the regular lines like, “I’ve seen you before.” And also, “Has anyone told you that you have a nice smile.” Nothing cheesy like, “You must be tired because you’ve been running through my mind all day.”

If You Were Dating a Woman Who Began Transitioning to Male, Would You Remain in the Relationship?
Filed Under Gender | 2 Comments
Genia: I love the female form and all its curves – especially that curvy backside. It would be difficult for me to continue a sexual relationship with my partner who is transitioning to a male. Yes, I’m aware that many people will say my partner is still the same on the inside. Her inside is only a part of who I love. Most likely, I would end the relationship because neither of us will be what the other person needs.
Andrea: No. I am attracted to women and think that I would have a difficult time keeping that attraction if my partner transitioned to a male. I’m sure some say you stay in it because it’s still the same person. I could handle a change in hair style but change in gender would be difficult.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Filed Under General | Leave a Comment
Andrea and I want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving Day. We’re in Georgia visiting my family. I haven’t been home since 1996. We plan to eat a whole lotta southern style Thanksgiving dishes. Screw that low cal diet – just for today.
My sister promised me a carrot cake. Even though I can’t stand carrots, I can eat a lot of them if they’re in a cake! I’m excited to see my grandmother. I’ve missed her.
Have a good one, everybody!

Genia: I have so many ‘friends’ on Facebook that I don’t check anyone’s page unless they address me directly – that includes my girlfriend. I once dated a girl who checked my MySpace page all the time. She was always questioning me about why certain people were posting comments on my page. I hated that. I like a girl who has enough ‘friends’ (in real life and online) to keep her too busy to check up on me.
Andrea: My partner just so happens to be online all the time that I can’t help but see what she’s up to. I have gone to her page because she’s always posting stuff about things going on and has funny videos too.

When Did You Know You Were a Lesbian?
Filed Under Coming Out | 7 Comments
Genia: I knew when I was 2! Just kidding. I think I was probably 10 years old when I first realized I liked girls and that most of the other girls liked boys. My mom gave me a set of “Your Body, Your Self” books (something like that, remember those?) when I started my period. In one of those books, there was a section on homosexuality. The book said it was a phase that most adolescents go through and that I would grow out of it. At age 19, I came out as bisexual. At age 23, I realized I was really a homosexual. So much for that phase!
Andrea: It was fall of 1998 and I was in college. One of my best friends had her friend from high school visit. I met her two times. The first time I developed a huge crush on her, the second time she came back I acted on my feelings for her. After she left I realized my feelings were not exclusively for her and that I was attracted to women. Looking back now though, there are things long before that one experience that cued me that I was a lesbian.

Are You Out at Work?
Filed Under Careers | 5 Comments
Genia: I have been out at every job I’ve had since I came out, except the military. No, I don’t announce “Hey, I’m a lesbo” at job interviews, but I don’t play the gender change game either. I’m self-employed now and everyone I do projects with know I’m gay. When I was in cubicle land, I always had a picture of my kids, my pets and my significant other on my desk. The straight folks did it, so I saw nothing wrong with me doing it.
Andrea: I am out to all of my co-workers as well as my boss and have never had problems being out at work. I am a teacher, and have not come out to the parents although it is something I don’t hide either. I know many teachers that struggle with coming out at school especially at the high school level. I work with very young children so it is not as relevant for me to be out to the students. I wouldn’t share personal information with them even if I was straight.

What Qualities Do You Look For In a Potential Lifetime Mate?
Filed Under Relationships | Leave a Comment
Genia: I love, love, love independent women who don’t need to be with me every second of the day. Women who are both book smart and street smart are smokin’ hot. I also love women who share enough of my interests that we have some commonalities, yet we have enough differences that I can learn something from her.
Andrea: I look for women who are intelligent, passionate, hard working and can make me laugh. I love a woman that is outspoken and extroverted. I want to be with a woman who is honest and can be trusted. I want someone who is caring, thoughtful and understanding. I also want someone who shares in my vision for the future.

Genia: My bedroom (or hers) works just fine. But to add some spice to my life, I enjoy reserving a nice hotel room that has a large hot tub in the bedroom. I feel naughty knowing the folks in the room next door might hear us. I also like camping (real camping – not that campground and trailer shit so many people do) in a secluded area and doing it without any shelter from the elements.
Andrea: Outside is one of my favorites but you need to watch out for bugs and branches! Counter tops and tabletops are great too. Never done it in the airport bathroom because that’s just too close for comfort though I’m sure many have.
